It might warp or even melt in extreme cases. This is a real bummer because it restricts its use in a lot of high – heat environments.
I’ve had customers come to me complaining about this. They used the HIPS Matt Sheet in a project where they didn’t expect much heat, but then due to some unforeseen electrical issues, the temperature inside the enclosure rose. And boom, the sheet started to lose its shape. So, if you’re in an industry where heat is a constant factor, you gotta think twice before using HIPS Matt Sheet.
2. Poor Chemical Resistance
Another disadvantage is its poor chemical resistance. HIPS Matt Sheet isn’t very good at standing up to a lot of chemicals. If it comes into contact with certain solvents, acids, or alkalis, it can get damaged.

4. Low UV Resistance
HIPS Matt Sheet doesn’t do well when it’s exposed to UV light for long periods. When it’s out in the sun, the UV rays can cause the material to degrade.
The most obvious sign of this degradation is a color change. The sheet might start to yellow over time, which can be a big problem if you’re using it for a product where appearance matters. For example, if you’re using it for outdoor advertising signs, the yellowing can make the sign look old and unprofessional.
Not only that, but the UV exposure can also make the material more brittle. So, what little impact resistance it had to begin with gets even worse. So, if your project is going to be outdoors, you’ll probably want to look for a more UV – resistant material.
5. Recycling Challenges
Recycling HIPS Matt Sheet can be a bit of a pain. While it is technically recyclable, the process isn’t as straightforward as some other plastics.
There are several different types of plastics, and HIPS has to be separated from them during the recycling process. If it’s not separated properly, it can contaminate other plastics and make the whole recycling batch less valuable. Also, the recycling facilities need to have the right equipment to process HIPS. Not all recycling plants have this, which means that in some areas, it might be difficult to recycle HIPS Matt Sheet at all.
